Michael French Cane Chair

Our Michael Armchair enhances the natural beauty of a traditional empire armchair by adding caned wicker side paneling. Combining an airy, relaxed feel with its formal style, a marrying of cultures and mixing handwoven with hand carved this piece is exquisite. First discovered buried with Egyptian pharaohs, wicker had a massive resurgence in the furnishings of the 1970s and are now back in vogue.

Customize your own with custom upholstery and custom painted legs available. We have a wide range of family/ pet-friendly, stain-resistant textiles to high-end wovens, & prints to accommodate your wishes. 

In the spirit of its Neoclassical roots, we turned this chair on its head with our over-the-top combination of modern fabrics. The elbow pads, back and seat cushions are covered in 100% cotton, durable print. Reminiscent of works by Dutch graphic artist, Maurits Cornelis Escher, with its mind-blowing pattern of terraced colonnades, mosaics and lush tropical greenery. Designed in the UK and milled in Italy. Available in other colourways and also as wallpaper.  A woven houndstooth pattern completes the chair, paying homage to the noble rattan, and topped with contrast piping. Solid wood carved frame and caning are stained in yellow.

This piece is handmade locally, and frames are only available in limited quantities.
