Today we’re super excited to share a fun re-upholstery project that we recently completed for one of our amazing clients. We hope that this will help shed light on why re-upholstery can be such an important and exciting option when considering furniture options for your space.

For this particular re-upholstery project our team transformed an antique swivel rocking chair. Our customer’s swivel rocking chair was from a furniture maker once located near Weymouth Mills along the Sissiboo River in Nova Scotia. The business was previously a ship building operation before pivoting to furniture making to adjust to the changing times. Our customer also has family ties to the Maritimes so, we wanted to restore and refashion the chair with that personal connection.

This swivel chair was transformed using a beautiful embroidered cotton linen fabric called Wiggle (in Amethyst) from the Harlequin collection by Sophie Robinson along the back and sides, along with a contrast piping throughout in a  deep purple.

The top seat features an exclusive fabric called “We Sailed Away” in royal blue by designer Donna Wilson from the Christopher Farr Fogo Island Collection. The Fogo Island Collection of fabrics and wallpaper are exclusively available through KENDALL & Co.

This special collection of fabrics and wallpaper was inspired by the beauty of Fogo Island landscapes and their rich cultural heritage.

"This collection pays homage to the historical significance of wallpaper in Newfoundland. Originally employed to ward off the chill in uninsulated homes, wallpaper evolved into a cultural emblem and a source of comfort." (Christopher Farr, 2024)

The collection was created in collaboration with a Newfoundland charity called Shorefast, who are dedicated to local economic resilience, underscoring a critically important commitment to sustainability and community well-being.

We think that this particular project is a perfect demonstration of the value of furniture re-upholstery, a service that is an endeavor to salvage treasured heirlooms and uphold sustainable living. For that perfect cozy armchair that fits you like a glove. Dining chairs that served you well through many family gatherings. The tired headboard that has seen better days & nights. The well loved sofa with good bones despite supporting your family for years.

More and more customers nowadays choose to re-upholster because they care to not discard their past into landfills, but more than that- they are taking a conscious action for a greener future.
