Sew Personal – by Harriet Riddell, Textile Performance Artist
Customers and friends took part in this brilliant Textile Performance Art with our young artist, Harriet Riddell, at KENDALL & Co. In a matter of 15 minutes, Harriet created a one-of-a-kind portrait of you with her sewing machine, on the spot, right on the fly. As you chat with Harriet during your session, she will capture little details about you onto her canvas that make the artwork even more wonderfully personal. Some even brought their own old clothing (t-shirt, sweater, etc) to incorporate it into their portrait.
Harriet Riddell has her roots in Canada and grew up in the UK. After graduating from Contemporary Applied Arts at the University of Hertfordshire, she found her calling as a Textile Performance Artist. She travels with her sewing machine, sets up in unusual places and narrates her observations in stitch. Her practice is called “InStitchYou”. Harriet has won The Absolut Blank award 2012, The New Designers, One Year On award 2013; she has a portrait hung in the Winston Churchill War rooms after coming 3rd in the national Winston Churchill portrait competition. Harriet is looking forward to her first solo show in London, England this December and she is also traveling to Paris to exhibit at The Aiguille en Fete.
